The Central Cheney Historic District was established in 2001 and is maintained by the Cheney Historic Preservation Commission. The commission compiled a booklet of facts about the district that serves as a guide. The booklet is useful when touring downtown Cheney. It is well-researched, thorough, and most importantly given its size, direct. The reader and/or tourist is told all of the relevant and interesting facts about each building in the district in a short, easy-to-read space. The map is helpful, though it is located in the middle of the booklet, and there is no indication at the beginning that there will even be a map. This is a potential source of confusion. Overall, the downtown Cheney tour is well-put together and makes for a nice afternoon activity.
